In our 24/7 lifestyles, finding moments of peace and stillness can feel impossible, especially if you are a busy women who is juggling loads of different responsibilities. Yet in the middle of this chaos, lies a super powerful tool to help you reduce stress and practice some self-care. That tool is Meditation.
In this blog, we’ll explore how meditation can easily fit into your busy life, we’ll look at some practical tips and the benefits of a regular meditation practice.
For the most women I speak to, finding the time is what’s stopping them from practicing Meditation regularly. With careers, families and a never-ending “to-do” list, the thought of adding something else to the list can feel overwhelming. But here’s the thing, Meditation doesn’t need to take up hours of your time! In fact, just a few minutes a day can have a huge, positive impact in your life - particularly on your mental & emotional wellbeing.
Practical Meditation Tips for Busy Women
Start Small
Start by trying just 5 minutes of Meditation, a couple of times a week. This could be before the chaos of the day starts, or a few quiet minutes to wind down before bed. Find a time that works for you a practice Meditation then, twice a week. As you become more comfortable with this and it becomes part of your routine, you could try Meditating for 10 minutes, or add a extra day in and just gradually build it up over time.
Practice Mindfulness
Who says that Meditation has to happen sat on a cushion, in a silent room? Unfortunately, these days a silent room and ample time is not available to most of us! Instead, bring Mindfulness into everyday tasks like washing up, taking the dog for a walk, or standing in a queue. You can practice Mindfulness anywhere! Try focusing on your breathing or being in the present moment by noticing a body part, a sound, smell, taste etc.
Create a Sacred Space
Designate a little corner of your bedroom or office, that’s just for you. Decorate it with calming colours, soft cushions and furnishings, fairy lights or candles. Creating a designated space, signals to your brain that it’s time to relax, unwind and reconnect to yourself.
Use Guided Meditations
If sitting in silence doesn’t work for you, use a guided Meditation instead. There are so many available on YouTube, Insight Timer, Headspace etc now , that you will be spoilt for choice! Try different styles of Meditation - this could be gentle prompts, breathwork (Pranayama), visualisation - the list goes on - find one that resonates with you and that you enjoy.
Mindful Movement
For those of you who are already practicing Yoga, consider bringing more Mindfulness into your practice. You could try to focus on the sensations in each pose, the transition from pose t0 pose, the rhythm of your breath and the present moment. By adding this to your practice, a Yoga pose moves from being something physical you practice on the mat, to a moving Meditation.
